The Tennessee Wind Working Group, along with Cumberland Sustainable, hosted a free public workshop for the public on July 19th, 2007 in Crossville, TN. The workshop was broken up into a morning and afternoon agenda, focusing on residential wind and commercial wind applications. Over 50 people came to hear from representatives of Tennessee Valley Authority, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Cumberland Sustainable, and the Cumberland Electric Membership Cooperative. Topics covered included an introduction to wind energy technologies, financing for residential wind projects and commercial wind applications, assessing wind resource for residential and commercial wind applications, and an overview of the TVA/TEEN Wind for Schools Program.
Following the workshop, attendees were invited out for a tour of a nearby renewable energy installation at a lodge in Cumberland County. The lodge has 2 wind turbines installed, a solar PV array, a tracking solar PV away, a micro-hydro system, and a solar thermal installation for hot water. This was followed by a trip to the Buffalo Mountain wind turbines to see commercial scale wind in Tennessee up close and personal.
