Tennessee Wind Working Group hosts 3rd Anemometer at Highlander Center
The
Tennessee Wind Working Group, in partnership with Highlander Center
staff, Brian Raichle of Appalachian State University, and Rick Carson
of the Tennessee Valley Authority hoisted its 3rd anemometer in New
Market, TN on October 1st, 2007. The 30m NRG Systems Symphonie tower
was equipped with new calibrated anemometers and wind vanes in order to
accurately measure the wind speed, wind direction, and wind shear.
The
site was chosen based on the Highlander Center's initial interest in
early 2006. The tower was unavailable at the time because it was
recording data in Jonesborough, TN. The tower was moved in
mid-September to the Highlander Center and began collecting data on Oct
1st, 2007 and will collect data until December 31st, 2008. The
Highlander Center has done an excellent job of presenting the data as
analyzed by the Tennessee Wind Working Group. To visit their website

Data
from the anemometer is reported to the right, complete with frequency
distribution, wind rose, and hourly averages. At the beginning of
January, when the anemometer was being checked for data, it was noted
that the data card was improperly formatted. This issue was fixed,
however, the months of November and December were lost.
