Camp Creek Elementary School in Greeneville, TN Tests Wind Feasibilty
In Greeneville, TN, the Camp Creek area is legendary for strong winds, referred to by the National Weather Service as "mountain waves." In partnership with Greeneville Power and Light System and Camp Creek Elementary School, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy installed a 135' anemometer at Camp Creek Elementary School in March 2009. This tower will serve to monitor the consistency of the winds at Camp Creek to determine the potential for installing a wind turbine that can help offset the electricity usage at the elementary school.

With a permanent National Weather Service station located a mere 50 yards from the tower, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is hoping to correlate the tall tower data with the NWS station in order to provide an understanding of the year around wind regime at Camp Creek.
