Tennessee Slated to Gain Jobs from Increasing Wind Capacity and Manufacturing Jobs

This DOE 20% Wind Vision report is just that, a vision. It is up to each state government agency, each state utility, and businesses in each state to take full advantage of the information presented. As the federal government and wind industry prepares to move forward with this initiative, the role that each state plays will depend on the state's willingness to engage the industry. This 20% vision is not a roadmap, rather, a snapshot of how the future of wind energy may affect each state. It is made on some logical assumptions, however, it is understood that these assumptions will change based on the priorities in each state.

20% Wind Vision Impact in Tennessee

The 20% Wind Energy laid out these keystones for the state of Tennessee:
  • 1,090 MW of Wind Energy Development in the state of Tennessee
      • Represents $3 million/yr in local landowner payments
      • Represents $7 million/yr is local tax payments
      • Total Economic (Direct and Indirect) impacts of $1.3 billion

      • Builds upon existing infrastructure in state of Tennessee
      • New opportunities for declining manufacturing sector

 Leadership Needed
The DOE 20 Percent Wind Vision calls upon Tennessee to grasp the opportunity to show true leadership in the near future. The wind industry can provide thousands of jobs for Tennessee citizens, provide economic incentives to rural Tennessee counties, and provide a hedge against increasing energy costs for citizens of the state of Tennessee.
